Updated travel requirements to African destinations

Mauritius

Since April 26, no local cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Mauritius & World Travel and Tourism Council WTTC recognizes Mauritius as a safe destination with regards to Covid-19

International travel reopening:

  • 1 September 2020

Seychelles

International travel reopening:

  • 1 August 2020 (commercial flights)

Screening and quarantine requirements on arrival:

  • Negative COVID-19 PCR certificates (not more than 72 hours days old), alternatively a Rapid Antigen test is required.

  • All test results, accommodation and flight details to be send to the Sechelles Public HEalth Authority before boarding a commercial flight.

  • Screening process at arrival: health check forms, symptomatic checks, temperature scans and potentially Rapid Antigen tests.

Countries allowed to travel to the destination:

  • Low risk countries: Belgium, China, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Mauritius, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, and Thailand.

  • Medium risk countries: France, Austria, Canada, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, and UAE.

Tanzania

Open for international travel / date of reopening:

  • 1 June 2020

Screening and quarantine requirements on arrival:

  • Negative COVID-19 PCR certificates required

  • Strict measures have to be followed: social distancing, good hand hygiene, and the wearing of masks remain mandatory

  • Temperature test on arrival & if normal, no quarantine required

Rwanda

International travel reopening:

  • 1 August 2020

Screening and quarantine requirements on arrival:

  • Provide a negative COVID-19 test on arrival, which remains valid for 72 hours before entering. Test results must be sent to lab@rbc.gov.rw prior to departure and also on arrival in Rwanda.

  • A further COVID-19 test must be taken on arrival in Rwanda. Visitors are waiting for test results for up to 24 hours at designated hotels.

  • Visitors without a negative COVID-19 test on arrival will be tested twice. The first test will be taken immediately on arrival, and the second test will be taken 48 hours after entering the country.

  • Departing visitors will be able to test again at the airport.

Promotions:

Rwanda is currently offering discounted gorilla trekking permits available to foreign visitors until 31 December 2020.

Kenya

International travel reopening:

  • 1 August 2020

Screening and quarantine requirements on arrival:

  • Negative COVID-19 certificates (not more than 14 days old)

  • All travellers entering or leaving Kenya will be screened for COVID-19.

  • No mandatory quarantine when entering Kenya.

  • Strict measures have to be followed: social distancing, good hand hygiene, and the wearing of masks remain mandatory

Namibia

15 July to 15 August 2020: Trial Period; entry for visitors from selected countries. Projected date for reopening: from 18 September 2020.

International travel reopening:

  • Reopening of borders to selected countries (to be confirmed) suggested from 15 July to 15 August 2020.

  • 18 September 2020 (proposed date of reopening for international travel).

Screening and quarantine requirements on arrival:

  • Provide a negative COVID-19 test on arrival, which remains valid for 72 hours before entering Namibia.

  • All visitors must submit to compulsory quarantine. Additional COVID-19 testing required during this period, at own cost.
